Creating Affirming 2SLGBTQIA+ Mathematics Classrooms

This workshop will provide attendees with a beginner’s level understanding of creating 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming mathematics classrooms. We will discuss the interplay of mathematical identity and 2SLGBTQIA+ identity and explore strategies for confronting bias, auditing classroom spaces and curricular materials, and responding to pushback from stakeholders.

Workshop Date / Time:

October 26, 2022

7:30-9:00 PM Eastern

(6:30-8:00 PM Central / 5:30 - 7:00PM Mountain / 4:30 - 6:00P Pacific)

Toward a Queer PK-12 Mathematics

This workshop will move beyond conversations of 2SLGBTQIA+ 101, creating physically safe & tolerant classrooms, and centering queer trauma to justify the need for such supports. Instead we will consider how mathematics reinforces heternormativity and the use of queer pedagogy to create humanizing mathematics experiences for 2SLGBTQIA+ students.

Workshop Date / Time:

November 2, 2022

7:30-9:00 PM Eastern

(6:30-8:00 PM Central / 5:30 - 7:00PM Mountain / 4:30 - 6:00P Pacific)
