Professional Background
Teaching Experience
Over the last decade and a half I have worked in a variety of K-12 educational contexts (both in Florida and New York), including public, private, and charter high school and middle schools. In those contexts I taught everything from 7th grade mathematics to Pre-Calculus and AP Statistics. In addition to teaching grades 7-12, I have served as a teacher leader, led and contributed to several curriculum writing initiatives across grade levels, and organized/taught in several summer or after school mathematics enrichment programs. During my time as a K-12 classroom teacher, I worked as an adjunct in the Teacher Education Program at The University of Tampa and later as a teaching assistant and edTPA coordinator (of sorts) in the Mathematics Education Program at Teachers College, Columbia University.
In 2018, I transitioned out of the K-12 mathematics classroom to work in teacher preparation. I worked two years as an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education at Drew University, specializing in the teaching of K-12 mathematics and science, with a focus on equity and social justice, before experiencing a mild traumatic brain injury and having to take an extended medical leave. During my mTBI recovery, I began working as a mathematics consultant and independent scholar, founding QMT and co-founding Radical Pedagogy Institute with Dr. Leah Z Owens.
